Transiting into fall decor is always exciting, but before you dive right in, take a minute to plan things out. From pulling out the pumpkins far too early to overlooking texture there are a lot of ways to go wrong. Here are four fall decorating mistakes not to make this year.
Overlooking Seasonal Texture
We *just* covered texture, so pop over there if you need a refresher. Either way, don't skip int! Chunky knits, woven baskets and natural textures go so far making your seasonal home decor interesting and inviting.
Pulling Out All The Pumpkins Way Too Early
If you live for autumn, the urge to deck your home in pumpkin everything can be hard to resist. We encourage you to do it anyway. Fresh pumpkins just won't last, even on the stoop, until the end of October and definitely not through Thanksgiving. Limit yourself to just a few, inside and out, and slowly add more over time for an organic, interesting presentation.
Faux Foliage That Looks Fake
We're huge fans of faux florals and foliage, but only when it's done right. Cheap fake plants don't elevate your space—they detract from it. Avoid anything that looks obviously fake, with overly bright colors or visible plastic. We take pride in finding the most realistic faux florals and foliage, so hop over to the floral section of our decor shop for some great finds!
Forgetting To Blend Seasonal Elements With Your Usual Home Decor
It's easy to forget your existing home decor and overall design scheme when you start decorating for a specific season. But these additions should be complementary to what's already there. If you generally stick to neutrals, a few fall decor pieces that are a little deeper or bolder will really pop as a nod to the season. Be mindful about what you're adding and think through the pieces you can store away the end result isn't overwhelming.
