5 Tips to Get Your Front Porch Summer Ready

It's officially May, and that means summer is just ahead! If you haven’t already whipped your front porch into shape, we’re here with easy ways to make it your favorite part of the house. Read on for 5 tips to get your front porch summer ready (and how Third & Main makes it super easy!).

Start with a Good Scrubbing

First things first—you need a clean space. Do what you need to do to make that porch sparkle, and don’t forget to hose down the ceiling if you have one! If you have the space for any seating, make sure to clean that outdoor furniture too.

Add a Wreath

If you know, you know—wreaths aren’t just for the holidays. A beautiful wreath or other door hanging (maybe a basket filled with plants and flowers?) is a fast, simple way to freshen up your front door with a little color and life. Our real-touch white magnolia wreath is a great option. This 30-inch wreath  is expertly crafted for authenticity and stays looking fresh and vibrant forever. That’s the beauty of a great faux!

Try Layered Doormats

Bold, bright door mats are another easy way to brighten things up. Door mats that aren’t as wide as the doorway can be layered on top of a bigger mat to match the scale and add substance. If your door has sidelites, make sure the layered rug base extends wide to include them.

A rug is a great alternative to doormats. Either way, it’s a simple way to define a space and add cohesiveness.

Choose Accessories with Care

It’s easy to go overboard with accessories, but the front porch is a great place to dial things up. Our favorite accessories? Lanterns, fun planters, and a mix of fresh and faux potted plants and florals. Our gorgeous real-touch ranunculus come in pink, white and sunny yellow, so it’s easy to coordinate color for a bit of intention. These measure just under 15 inches and come in a substantial concrete pot. They’re a bestseller for a reason!

Our whimsical ceramic dog and pig planters are another fun option. A little bit playful, definitely creative, and an ideal place for fresh succulents, herbs, or flowers. Mix and match them with other potted plants for a fresh, vibrant feel.

Incorporate Seating

Not only is porch seating entirely functional, it gives you a spot for indoor/outdoor pillows and even a throw (have you seen our divinely soft alpaca throw?!). These elements are textural and an easy way to add pops of color, too.
